Lower King and Bayonet Head Progress Association - ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION:
Lower King and Bayonet Head Progress Association is a not-for-profit organisation and is no longer active.
The Association closed activites MAY 23rd 2022 via Voluntary Canellation with the Dept of MInes.
The Committee elect at our Annual General Meeting in November 2021 passed a resolution to apply for voluntary cancellation following several years of low membership and interest community.
The aim of our association was:
IMPORTANT NOTICE: The 2021 Annual General Meeting concluded without a full committee. No nominations were received for President or Vice-President. Therefore a caretaker committee of the outgoing President, the current Treasurer and Secretary held office until February 2022.
Official documents are currenty stored with the Caretaker Secretary and can be contacted via email - [email protected]
The Progress Association was started in 1958, as housing development took off in Lower King, and it was run by incoming residents. The first President was the Police Inspector for Albany, Mick McGeary, with his sister Cecelia Andrews-Baxter as Secretary.
The Association was very active, and helped develop a strong sense of community amongst new and existing residents.
This sense of community is something which we hope to reactivate today, as residents come and go, and the Oyster Harbour subdivision progresses. There are many benefits to knowing your neighbours and your area, and to becoming involved with a locally orientated pressure group. For example, in the absence of an actual Neighborhood Watch programme in Albany, a strong community awareness is our best defence against increasing crime rates.
And if you need to be heard by Council etc - we can help.
Lower King and Bayonet Head Progress Association aims to protect and speak for all our residents - 'old-timers' and 'incomers'!
Our General Meetings were held at Gomm Park Hall 644 LOWER KING ROAD. Usually on a Monday evening. Meetings normally start with a guest speaker..
Local Councillors from both local wards - Yakamia (Bayonet Head) and Kalgan (Lower King) wards - were invited to meetings, along with a guest speaker of local interest. Our current councilors are: Yakamia Ward & Kalgan Ward
Together, we can be a strong voice for our local area.
